And at 3 AM, with cows bellowing in the barn, you want someone who\u2019s already seen\u2014and solved\u2014that problem before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Problem #1: Service Technicians<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re lucky, you\u2019ve got a local dealer like <strong>Lely Center Mid-Atlantic<\/strong>. Right now, we\u2019re firing on all pistons. Our team is stronger than ever, with two up-and-coming techs joining an already rockstar crew. Our robot herd uptime sits at an impressive <strong>99.37%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what\u2019s the problem?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you&#8217;re at the top of the mountain, the challenge shifts from <em>getting<\/em> there to <em>staying<\/em> there. Labor challenges today are nothing like they were 20 years ago. Employees want more from their careers\u2014and they\u2019ve got plenty of options that don\u2019t include being on call 24\/7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re fortunate to have a team that understands the life of a dairy farmer and accepts the demands of the job. But it&#8217;s our responsibility to protect them\u2014so they can continue delivering the exceptional service our customers rely on. And frankly, whether customers realize it or not, that\u2019s their problem too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Problem #2: Inconsistent Expectations &amp; Unpredictable Costs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the customer&#8217;s perspective, their only point of contact is usually their technician. What they may not realize is that no two farms handle service the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Customer A wants the tech to handle <em>only part<\/em> of the maintenance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Customer B wants to be called before anything is touched.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Customer C wants the tech to fix <em>everything<\/em>, no matter how small.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This creates a huge challenge for our techs, who want to service equipment to the highest standards\u2014but often have to hold back, knowing it could mean a midnight emergency call later on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the flip side, we understand where customers are coming from. One of the biggest challenges they face is variable service invoices. One month it\u2019s a routine checkup, the next it\u2019s an emergency call, a big repair, or a tech traveling from across the region. And yes, those costs can swing significantly\u2014month to month and year to year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a good year, there\u2019s usually a \u201ccatch-up\u201d year. That unpredictability leads some customers to delay maintenance or skip repairs, which causes problems to snowball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what if it didn\u2019t have to be that way?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Introducing: Service Agreements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Lely Center Mid-Atlantic, we\u2019ve been studying these bottlenecks for years\u2014on both the customer and dealer side. We\u2019re now piloting <strong>Service Agreements<\/strong> designed to offer a win-win for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s what we\u2019re working on:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Service agreements would give customers a choice of coverage levels at a single, predictable monthly rate per robot:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Level 1 <em>\u201cMaintained\u201d <\/em><\/strong>\u2013Covers all your scheduled maintenances per year. If you\u2019re already following Lely\u2019s recommended service schedule, this helps spread the cost evenly and removes variability from things like travel distance or timing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Level 2 <em>\u201cCovered\u201d<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Includes all maintenance and repair parts\/labor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Level 3 <em>\u201cComplete\u201d<\/em> <\/strong>\u2013 All-inclusive: maintenance, repairs, parts, labor, emergency calls\u2014everything.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What\u2019s in it for technicians?<\/strong><br>Service agreements let our techs do what they do best\u2014proactively maintain and repair robots without being limited by cost concerns. It reduces the number of unplanned calls, helps prevent emergencies before they happen, and allows us to apply lessons learned from one farm to others\u2014at no additional cost to producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What\u2019s in it for customers?<\/strong><br>Peace of mind. One monthly payment, no surprise invoices, and coverage from a team of highly trained, experienced technicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We believe this is a true win-win: predictable costs for producers, improved work-life balance for techs, and better uptime for robots across the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re currently testing this with a select group of farms before rolling it out more widely.
